In Oriental Medicine, there is no separation between emotional and physical phenomenon, although they arrive on a continuum. The emotional and physical body are like the warp and weft of a carpet, completely interwoven. Each organ of the body is seen as having both emotional and physical domains. Therefore, if an energetic organ is out of balance (i.e. there is illness or suffering), it is quite certain that the emotions will manifest that imbalance as well. Take a digestive disorder. This is likely the domain of the stomach or spleen. If the spleen is not able to adequately do its job, and perhaps a person is eating an improper diet and not able to assimilate their food. Not only might this person exhibit symptoms like gastric distress, gas, bloating, frequent colds and fatigue, etc, but they might also tend to ruminate on ideas, obsess, and tend towards worry. These are the emotions associated with a weak spleen in Oriental Medicine. We can assess and treat common emotional imbalances to return your energy to normal.
